JUST-A-FALLS - Pond Less Waterfalls

Waterfalls without a pond at the bottom are becoming very popular. This type of system, called "Just-A-Falls" or pond-less waterfall, is ideal for those wanting the sights and sounds of a waterfall without the liability or maintenance of a pond. Instead of having a pond at the bottom, a reservoir is dug, lined with underlayment and pond liner, then filled full of stone. A pump vault is buried in the rock making the pump easily accessible (see drawing below). Use the pond vault (below) along with the spillways to create a customized feature or buy one of the complete packages listed below.

EASYPRO POND VAULT

The EasyPro Pond Vaults are built super heavy duty to withstand the pressure of being buried under rock. The vaults have slots cut in the sides which allows water into the pump. The maximum flow rates for each vault is listed below.

JAFM - maximum flow is 100 GPM (6,000 GPH)
JAFV - maximum flow is 250 GPM (15,000 GPH)

EASYPRO POND VAULT EXTENSION

A 12" extension is available for the mini vault. This allows you to dig your reservoir deeper and still have easy access to the pump. The 12" extension has a flange around the bottom that slides right over the top edge of the mini vault. Multiple extensions can be used if needed.

RESERVOIR CUBES

Reservoir Cubes (Res-Cubes) are a great way to simplify installation of the Just-A-Falls, formal fountains, and other basins typically using a large quantity of rock. These sturdy plastic cubes can be stacked together to partially or totally fill the reservoir of a Just-A-Falls. This dramatically reduces the labor involved, reservoir size, and material cost in liner, underlayment, and rock!

Rather than develop expensive molds and tooling to make a product for this, we simply used our buying power to negotiate good prices on an existing product in the marketplace. These oversized milk crates eliminated molding charges and by purchasing 3,690 (a full 53' semi load) at a time, we can sell them for less than you would pay buying direct in smaller quantities.

A typical reservoir filled with rock holds 40% water and 60% stone. By using Res-Cubes you can increase water to 85% and reduce rock to 15%! This allows you to hold more water in a smaller area, reducing the reservoir size needed.

Res-Cubes measure 19" long x 13" wide x 11" high. The height is ideal since our mini vault is 22" high and the large vault is 33" high. By using two or three stacked rows of cubes you can match the vault height perfectly. Res-Cubes can be connected together using plastic zip ties to create large blocks of space.

Determining size of reservoir:
Needed: To determine how big of a reservoir you will need for a custom sized waterfall, you first need to know the gallons in the stream. Multiply length x width x .33 x 7.48 = gallons in stream.

Next: Determining the volume in a reservoir - since the reservoir is filled with rock, the water volume is far less than a normal pond. Thru testing we have determined that the reservoir holds approximately 40% water and 60% rock. To determine water volume multiply length x width x depth x .4 x 7.48 = gallons. The gallons in the reservoir should be double the gallons in the stream at minimum, ideally it should be three times the stream gallons. Using the Res Cubes (above) greatly increases the water capacity in the reservoir!
